What the ...?

What the...?

This question is the essence of my farming experience.

My husband and I are new to farming; such an experience has been a life dream. We now are living it. That said, our learning curve is significant!

June 1, 2011 marked our first anniversary on this adventure. The past year was filled with amazing highs and some harsh realities. Truly, farming is some of the hardest work I ever but at the same time some of the most rewarding.

My husband has construction background and I have medical/interior design background. He has zero animal/gardening experience. My experience is minimal. When my mother remarried, we moved to a small family farm. I had very little interaction with the animals and gardening was a chore-not a love or a passion.

Therefore, you maybe wondering...What the heck are you doing farming for?

A number of reasons:
-A desire to return to the original state of things. Being Christ followers, we desire to learn the parables of Christ more in depth. Jesus used agricultural parables more than any other.
-To share. We wish to share not only these lessons (we are currently Biblical Counselors) but to also share the abundance of our food and our life.
-To teach. First to teach our children: to love the created world, a strong work ethic, and simplicity. Secondly, to bring others closer to the parables of Christ.

This is why I will begin blogging. To share and to teach.

Blessings!

Milking

June 18, 2011

As crazy as it may seem, I truly do like to milk. Sure, it helps that I am a morning person.  As does a cup of java, but needless to say, I do like to milk.

A quietness pervades the very act.  The barn is quiet.  The routine is quiet. My thoughts are quiet.  Such quietness is a golden gift; a precious moment.  Many times this translates to another talk with Jesus or singing softly songs of worship and praise...and with my voice only the animals can appreciate the singing.

Such was my morning today.  Such a wonderful hour. Such a start to the day.
